Tony Hrebar Memorial
OBITUARY
September 3, 1971 ~ May 15, 2022
Anthony “Tony” Evan Hrebar passed away suddenly at the age of 50 in his residence on May 15, 2022, in Wasilla, Alaska. Tony, as his friends and family knew him, was born to Carmen and Anthony “Tony” Hrebar in Sitka, Alaska on September 3, 1971. His father worked for the US Forest Service, which brought his family from Washington State to Kake, Alaska in 1967. One year after his birth, in 1972, the family relocated to Sitka, Alaska where Tony went to school and lived until moving to Wasilla, Alaska in 1984. Tony began working for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG) at age 17 in 1988, learning how to design, build, and install fish weirs for the salmon fisheries management in the drainage of the Matanuska Susitna Valley. Tony recently began his 34th season working on the Deshka weir for ADFG as a Fish Tech 3.
Tony is missed dearly by his family and will be remembered for his care and love for nature. His passion for Alaska's wildlife is evidenced by his dedication to his lifelong career with Alaska's Department for Fish & Game. As an avid lover of the outdoors, he also spent much of his personal time hiking, fishing, photographing nature, gold panning, and rock and gem hunting.
In 2016, Tony began to spend winters, between work seasons, with his mother and sister in Kingdom City and Columbia, Missouri, where he explored the outdoors of the Midwest. Tony had recently told family he was planning to retire from the ADFG at the end of the 2022 season.
Tony is survived by his mother Carmen Hrebar of Columbia, MO, sisters; Jennifer Hrebar-Ihler and husband Ron Ihler of Kingdom City, MO, Antoinette Beck and husband Mark Beck, of Wasilla, AK, nieces; Machaela Raney, Brittany Tilton, Keanna Beck, nephews; Ryan Beck, Sterling Beck, Kendall Beck, and great nieces and nephews, Malakai and Olivia Raney, Bjorn and Bianca Beck and Charlotte Tilton. Tony was preceded in death by his father Anthony Eugene Hrebar, of Sitka, AK, his maternal grandparents William and Ruby Beeks of Packwood WA, and paternal grandparents, Anthony and Tressa Hrebar, of Beaverdale, PA.
